About the Internship
:

Hyde Park is a great place for interns to learn about all facets of golf course management. At the beginning of the internship, each intern will receive an evaluation/survey, which will help identify strong points as well as weaknesses of past work experiences that will be evaluated throughout the internship. The duration of the internship, interns will be challenged with responsibilities that include decision making and leading team projects. Specific areas of focus will include all aspects of course setup, calibration and applications of fertilizers and pesticides, operation of all equipment, drainage and irrigation repair and installation. A significant part of the summer will be engaging in water management on various playing surfaces on the golf course. This will include hand watering as well as learning to program the irrigation system. Interns will also have a chance to spend some time with the Equipment Technician learning preventative maintenance practices as well as setting and adjusting reels.

There are a couple areas the interns at Hyde Park will gain insight into that will help further their careers that most internships do not cover. Interns are encouraged to attend Green Committee meetings with the Superintendent and Assistants. This allows interns to see the inner workings of the Greens Committee and the decision making process.

Also, the internship will allow interns to spend time with management reviewing the financial side of the industry.
